To celebrate seven years of journeying through NYC, “In Between” is a collection of photographs made across five years of learning a new place and new faces. The fleeting nature of such a large city is captured: while some places and people become a part of a routine, others are just blips passing in time. Altogether, they paint a picture of exploration, observation, and connection in between the spectrum of the familiar. How many lives can we touch in just a few years?

August Cao (he/they) is a writer and photographer. His work explores the transmasculine experience in the lens of their Chinese American upbringing and roots in Chicago, using analog and digital methods of understanding.
