From Here to Sunday is delighted to present Sabrina Sims' first solo exhibition, portals within myself. This ethereal and vibrant show explores portals as a dreamy, emotional, and tactile place where we can reflect on self-love, emotional dissonance, and transformation.

Iridescent textile hangings, ghostly infinity mirrors, and neon interactive video art immerse visitors in an atmosphere of deep introspection & vulnerable softness. These multi-layered works interact with each other to create mini-portals that explore the artist's experiences and invite us to look at ourselves in the mirror.  Reflective surfaces and shifting lighting are central to the show, creating an otherworldly celestial container where complex feelings are safe to explore. Sometimes when we are facing the realities of ourselves and others, it is hard to stay embodied. However, being temporarily disconnected is not necessarily a bad thing. This playful tension between the artist, visitors, and the space is evoked through the harmonizing yet contrasting colorwork, texture, and transparency of the pieces. Each person’s experience of the show depends on factors like how our body-minds feel, the time of day, and the lighting.  What can we learn about ourselves once we allow for light and joy to penetrate our hardened exteriors, even for just a moment?

This show is a continuation of Sabrina's series "soft synth poems", which focuses on tactile-emotional site-specific installations in DIY venues and playful reuse of craft materials.

🥳 SEPTEMBER 9 - OCTOBER 15 • ART EXHIBITION •

presents
⛓️ Irene Feleo ⛓️ Kaharian ⛓️
A Solo Exhibition

SEPTEMBER 9 - OCTOBER 15
Opening Reception: Sep 9, 2-6PM

Curated by Ray Hwang

With her debut solo exhibition Kaharian at From Here To Sunday, Irene Feleo creates an environment that welcomes viewers into her mind by introducing her visual language in multiple mediums. Along with curator Ray Hwang, she will be transforming the space into a vignette of what she imagines her “kaharian” to look like. Kaharian, meaning “kingdom” in Tagalog, is a nod to Irene’s Filipino family and roots. Her kingdom unfolds with the iconography and symbolism that are ever present throughout her work. Fragmented paintings act as a meditation on the symbols she constantly returns to: blooming and wilting flowers to show the passing of time; a butterfly to reflect the shedding of old skin. By fracturing the lines of the familiar, she hopes to expand the form these elements take and in turn, breathe new life into the stories within them. The arrangement of works with various painted surfaces, drawings, and three-dimensional objects of personal significance act like a walk-in cabinet of curiosities in which the viewer can only guess at the relation among them.

In this room, things feel at once familiar, yet not. They feel like they can exist in the digital realm in which we spend so much of our lives, yet are firmly grounded in our physical reality through the careful handmade touch that is immediately apparent. In concert with one another, Irene’s orchestration of her works generously reveal her interest in the strange, folkloric topography that makes up her inner world, and she welcomes you to be a part of it.

Irene Feleo (b.1989) is a Filipino Australian artist currently residing in Brooklyn, NY.  Her art practice gravitates towards the seething and strange; working across the mediums of painting, writing and digital media.  She is fascinated with the visual concept of a “glitch”, the fragmented rippling of an object's form or function. Her art plays with bringing this concept to life in handmade renderings, where she finds comfort in the pushing and pulling of lines as they dance between familiar and abstract spaces. Throughout this practice, Irene references iconography often found in tattoo art, folklore and superstition to weave her own mythology and deepen her personal association with these symbols and the narratives they contain. Her work has been screened and exhibited in Melbourne, Sydney, Berlin, and New York. This is her first solo show in NY.  • irenefeleo.com • @irenefeleo •

Ray Hwang (b. 1992) is an artist from Los Angeles, currently living and working out of Ridgewood, NY. He received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2016 and has participated in exhibitions in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, New York, and internationally. He has been featured most recently with Art Maze Magazine, Vast Magazine, and was a recipient of both the Keyholder Residency at the Lower East Side Printshop in New York and the Plum Lime Residency in Brooklyn. As a continuation of Natalie Andrewson’s Café series at From Here to Sunday, we are presenting a group show based on the multi-faceted world of our furry friends with some of our beloved human friends!

Cats have always played a significant role in the shop’s personality. The lucky cat is one of the first to greet you during a visit, and traditionally, they not only provide a welcoming presence, they act as a symbol of good luck. For Cat Café, we consider all the ways in which cats bring comfort and joy, with a dash of authenticity and sass. Our feline friends represent our ability to be vulnerable through setting boundaries, and the sense of home and fierce loyalty we bring to the ones we love.

Sometimes it feels like the shop itself is going through its own nine lives. From Here to Sunday has evolved and weathered many storms over the years, and looking ahead, it is inevitable that more will come. The one constant that has kept us going is our community, so it only felt appropriate to extend the invitation to our community of artists and host a fundraiser to help sustain this business.

Each artist has generously donated work that will be raffled off to our loving community! Find details on how to enter here. [UPDATE: The raffle has ended and winners have been chosen.]

Mookntaka (MOO-kin-tah-kah) is a Brooklyn-based artist duo by Mark Zlotsky and Karyn Lao. It combines their names through the voice of their two-year-old niece: Mook (Uncle Mark) and Taka (Auntie Karyn).

Mark is an artist with an architectural background who infuses design with humor. Karyn is a fiber artist who believes that we are like pompoms — many pieces connected by a common thread. Together, they experiment and produce playful, unusual objects.

Mookntaka personifies the whimsical lens they investigate their surroundings with. It serves as a reminder to find joy in unexpected places and to embrace the silliness and curiosity of our inner child.

You can find more of their work on instagram @mookntaka!
