mosswater: Black Spring Oracle Card Deck
mosswater: Black Spring Oracle Card Deck
Black Spring tells an allegorical story about a tiny being embarking on an escape journey and ultimately reaching enlightenment and understanding the source of their pain. Creating this series helped mosswater heal from her own past traumas, and she hopes they can provide similar solace to others in consoling their inner child.
This series started as paintings and then transformed into lightbox installations for its first showcase in Taipei in 2021. Later, the artist expanded the series into a deck of oracle cards due to demand from collectors. Tarot cards were a major source of inspiration for this body of work, so this pivot felt natural. It seems the paintings were always meant to be shuffled by hands.
mosswater (Helen CH Ting • she/her) is a Taiwanese illustrator who collects stories from the earthly world. Her passion for illustration began with her first Clow Cards from "Cardcaptor Sakura" in early childhood. Fascinated by illustrations on the cards, mosswater embarks on a mysticism and healing exploration. In recent years, she has published a set of oracle cards derived from her lightbox art, Black Spring. Without any innate psychic abilities to perform a reading for others, she solely relies on her art appreciation, story-telling, and symbolism decoding to answer people’s questions.
